Trenger du en nybegynner gitar men ikke ønsker nylonstrenger (klassisk gitar) som ofte anbefales til nybegynnere finner du mange gode modeller her. Du får en kurrant stålstrengsgitar fra ca. kr.1000,-. I denne prisklassen er gitaren i laminat og ikke heltre. Den har som regel noe mindre lyd enn en med heltre.
Gitarer med heltre får du i dag relativt rimelig fra ca. kr.2.000,- avhengig av fabrikat. Dette står som regel i produktbeskrivelsen.
Gran og cedertre regnes som de 2 beste tresortene i lokket på en kassegitar, være seg klassisk eller akustisk. Gran i lokket gjør at gitaren din blir bedre og bedre med årene. Den åpner seg mer og mer i lyden jo mer du spiller på den. Cedertre gir den beste lyden gitaren kan gi deg med en gang. I sider (sargen) og bunn på gitaren er rosentre (rosewood) og Mahogny de vanligste materialene. Det som skiller en rimelig og dyr gitar er som regel håndtverket og design. Ikke bare utseendet men konstruksjon og materialer. I de beste gitarene f.eks. Martin og Taylor finner du tre som kanskje er lagret i 30-60 år. I tillegg har disse modellene egne patenter som de holder tett til brystet. Spiler i kropp, tykkelse på tre, overgang fra hals til kropp, er noen av faktorene som spille mye inn i kontruksjonen på en gitar.
